GUIDELINES FOR THE CORPORATE RENEWABLE ENERGY SUPPLY SCHEME
EFFECTIVE 20 SEPTEMBER 2024
PUTRAJAYA, 20 SEPTEMBER 2024 - The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) has announced the implementation of the open grid initiative through the introduction of the Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS) on July 26, 2024.
The CRESS Programme will offer broader green electricity supply options to corporate consumers, enabling them to fulfil respective environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitments on green electricity through the concept of third-party access.
The Energy Commission will issue a specific guideline as a regulatory framework for industry players and stakeholders interested in participating in the CRESS programme. The Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme Guidelines will be effective from September 20, 2024, and interested parties can download this document from the Energy Commission’s website at www.st.gov.my.
PETRA is confident that the implementation of the CRESS programme will support and be the catalyst to the energy transition goals and development of the electricity supply sector, particularly in efforts to increase the share of renewable energy capacity from 26% (equivalent to 10.6GW) to 40% by 2035 and 70% by 2050. This initiative will play a crucial role in reducing the carbon footprint of the electricity supply sector and decreasing the country's dependence on fossil fuels for power generation.
