ST-ERIA-MASHRAE Align Objectives for Built Environment and Sustainability
Putrajaya, 25 October 2024 – The Energy Commission of Malaysia (Suruhanjaya Tenaga – ST) together with the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) as well as the ASHRAE Malaysia Chapter (MASHRAE) have jointly organized the International Conference on Built Environment and Sustainability with the theme “Decarbonization with Energy Efficiency”.
The conference included significant discussions on the policy and legal framework as well as technology-based themes related to energy efficiency, decarbonization, sustainability, zero-emission buildings and built environment.
Aimed at reaching out to both the building and industrial sectors, the conference was held today in Kuala Lumpur with the following objectives:
i. to promote greater awareness and updates on energy efficiency, decarbonization, and sustainability practices in Malaysia and the region.
ii. to provide a platform for professionals, practitioners, academics, researchers, regulators and policy makers to share, exchange views and discuss new technologies and developments available to industries.
In alignment with the ambitious goals of the new Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act (EECA), the ASHRAE Position Document on Building Decarbonization offers a comprehensive set of recommendations to expedite the transition to low-carbon buildings. Given that the building sector contributes approximately 40% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and the global building stock is projected to double by 2060, urgent action is imperative to mitigate climate change. By implementing these strategies, we can significantly reduce the environmental impact of our built environment and create a more sustainable future.
