Part-Time Courses

The Energy Commission, under the Electricity Supply Act 1990 and Electricity Regulations 1994, has continuously accredited institutions as centres for training and competency examinations in related categories on a part-time basis.

Part-time courses and examination on competency are able to provide opportunity to private candidates who work in the related areas to increase knowledge, self advancement and career development. Through this course, candidates can follow theoretical and practical aspect of education systematically and systematic at a more flexible time before sitting for the competency examination

Overview

The Energy Commission, under the Electricity Supply Act 1990 and Electricity Regulations 1994, has continuously accredited institutions as centres for training and competency examinations in related categories on a part-time basis.  

Part-time courses and examination on competency are able to provide opportunity to private candidates who work in the related areas to increase knowledge, self advancement and career development. Through this course, candidates can follow theoretical and practical aspect of education systematically and systematic at a more flexible time before sitting for the competency examination

Implementation of the course and examination on competency

Private candidates who are working in related fields and interested to improve their self development and career can apply the competency course and examination for Wireman, Chargeman and Cable Jointer through these accredited institutions.

All matters related to the course and training, examination on competency and certification, course payment, fee or examination fee would be handled by the institutions.

The course and training are conducted on Saturday and Sunday or in the evening class on weekdays.

  1. Basic qualification for each competency course and examination:
    1. A Malaysian citizen;
    2. Categories
      1. Wireman - 18 years old and above;
      2. Chargeman - 20 years old and above; and
      3. Cable Jointer -20 years old and above.
         
    3. Education qualifications:
      1. Completed Form 5 for candidates who does not possess certificate of competency for Wireman, Chargeman or Cable  Jointer;
      2. Completed Form 3 for Chargeman (restricted) to sit for the Chargeman (open) examination; and
      3. Candidates who possess certificates of competency for Chargeman, Wireman or Cable Jointer do not have to submit education qualifications.
      4. Able to speak and write in Bahasa Malaysia. 
Wireman PW1/PW2
  1. Possess two years working experience in electrical wiring with an Electrical Contractor registered with the Energy Commission.
  2. Possess complete log book based on 2 years working experience validated by a competent person and the employer.
  3. Possess Employees Provident Fund (EPF) or SOCSO statement as evidence of working experience for at least two 2 years.
Wireman PW3/PW4
  1. Possess a Single Phase wiring certificate of competency for at least 1 year from issuance date of the PW1/PW2 certificate of competency.
  2. Possess not less than 1 year working experience in Three Phase electrical wiring with a Class C electrical contractor registered with the Energy Commission.
  3. Possess complete log book based on 1 year working experience validated by a competent person and the employer.
  4. Possess Employees Provident Fund (EPF) or SOCSO statement as evidence of working experience for at least 1 year.
Chargeman A0
  1. Possess not less than 3 years working experience in an environment involving operation of electrical equipment and has experiences in controlling live equipment.
  2. Possess complete log book based on 3 years working experience in an environment involving operation of electrical equipment and controlling live equipment validated by a competent person and the employer.
  3. Possess Employees Provident Fund (EPF) or SOCSO statement as evidence of working experience for at least 3 year.

OR

  1. Possess certificate of competency:
       a. Wireman PW1/PW2/PW3/PW4/PW6
       b. Polytechnique certificate (Electrical Engineering)
            Not less than 2 years working experience in an environment involving operation of electrical equipment and controlling live equipment.
    Possess complete log book based on 2 years working experience in an environment involving operation of electrical equipment and controlling live equipment validated by a competent person and the employer.
    Possess Employees Provident Fund (EPF) or SOCSO statement as evidence of working experience for at least 2 year.
Chargeman A1
  1. Possess not less than 3 years working experience in an environment involving operation of electrical equipment and has experiences in controlling live equipment including 1 year experience in installation and low voltage aerial line maintenance.
  2. Possess complete log book based on 3 years working experience in an environment involving operation of electrical equipment and controlling live equipment including installation works and low voltage aerial line maintenance validated by a competent person and the employer.
  3. Possess Employees Provident Fund (EPF) or SOCSO statement as evidence of working experience for at least 3 years.

OR

  1. Possess a Chargeman AO certificate of competency at least 1 year working experience in low voltage aerial line operation.
  2. Possess complete log book based on 1 year working experience in low voltage aerial line maintenance validated by a competent person and the employer.
  3. Possess Employees Provident Fund (EPF) or SOCSO statement as evidence of working experience for at least 1 year.

OR

  1. Possess a Wireman certificate of competency (PW1/PW2/PW3/PW4) not less than 2 years working experience
    Note: 1 year working experience in an environment involving operation of electrical equipment and controlling live equipment and 1 year working experience in low voltage aerial line maintenance.
  2. Possess complete log book based on 2 years working experience in an environment involving operation of electrical equipment and controlling live equipment including low voltage aerial line maintenance validated by a competent person and the employer.
  3. Possess Employees Provident Fund (EPF) or SOCSO statement as evidence of working experience for at least 2 year.
Chargeman A4-1
  1. Possess a Chargeman AO certificate of competency at least 1 year working experience in low voltage standby generator and 1 year in installation and maintenance of low voltage aerial line.
  2. Possess complete log book based on 1 years working experience low voltage standby generator and 1 year in installation and maintenance of low voltage aerial line validated by a competent person and the employer.

OR

  1. Possess a Chargeman A1 certificate of competency at least 1 year working experience in low voltage standby generator.
  2. Possess complete log book based on 1 year working in experience in low voltage standby generator validated by a competent person and the employer.

OR

  1. Possess a Chargeman A4-2 certificate of competency at least 1 year working experience in installation and maintenance low voltage aerial line.
  2. Possess complete log book based on 1 year working experience in installation and maintenance low voltage aerial line validated by a competent person and the employer.
Chargeman B0 (11kV)
  1. Possess a Chargeman A4 certificate of competency based on 2 years working experience in high voltage system.
  2. Possess complete log book based on 2 year working experience in high voltage system validated by a competent person and the employer.
Chargeman B1 (11 kV)
  1. Possess a Chargeman certificate of competency A4 based on 2 years working experience.
    Note: 1 year in high voltage system and 1 year in high voltage aerial line;
    Possess complete log book based on 2 year working experience validated by a competent person and the employer.
    Note: 1 year in high voltage system and 1 year in high voltage aerial line;

OR


  1. Possess a Chargeman B0 certificate of competency with 1 year working experience in high voltage aerial line.
    Possess complete log book based on 1 year working experience in high voltage aerial line validated by a competent person and the employer.
Chargeman B4 (11 kV)
  1. Posses a Chargeman B0 certificate of competency besed on 2 years working experience.
    Note: 1 year working experience in aerial high voltage and one 1 year for high voltage synchronising of generators.
    Possess complete log book based on 2 years working experience validated by a competent personnel
    Note: 1 year working experience in aerial high voltage and one 1 year for high voltage synchronising of generators.
     

OR


  1. Possess a Chargeman B1 certificate of competency based on 1 year working experience in high voltage synchronising of generators.
    Possess complete log book based on 2 years working experience in high voltage synchronising of generators validated by a competent person and the employer.
     
Low Voltage Overhead Line Module (80 hours)
  1. Possess a Chargeman A0 certificate of competency at least 2 years working experience.
  2. Possess a complete log book based on 2 year working experience validated by a competent person and the employer.
Low Voltage Synchronising Generator Module (80 Hours)
  1. Possess a Chargeman A0 certificate of competency at least 2 years working  experience.
    Possess a complete log book based on 2 years working experience, validated by a competent person and the employer.

OR

  1. Possess a Chargeman A1 certificate of competency at least 1 year working experience.
    Possess a complete log book based on 2 years working experience, validated by a competent person and the employer.
High Voltage Overhead Line Module (80 hours)
  1. Possess a Chargeman B0 certificate of competency at least 2 years working experience.
  2. Possess a complete log book based on 2 year working experience validated by a competent person and the employer.
High Voltage Synchronising Generator Module (80 Hours)
  1. Possess a Chargeman b0 certificate of competency at least 2 years working experience.
    Possess a complete log book based on 2 years working experience, validated by a competent person and the employer.

OR

  1. Possess a Chargeman B1 certificate of competency at least 1 year working experience.
    Possess a complete log book based on 2 years working experience, validated by a competent person and the employer.

Notes

  1. Module of low voltage overhead line and low voltage synchronising generator can be used or adapted to qualify candidates to sit for any open chargeman examination as private candidates conducted by Energy Commission or to join any full time / part-time chargeman course conducted by an accredited institution based on Electrical Safety Circulars No. 01/2013 dated 22th Feruary 2013.
  2. Module of high voltage overhead line and high voltage synchronising generator can be used or adapted to qualify candidates to sit for any open chargeman examination as private candidates conducted by Energy Commission or to join any full time / part-time chargeman course conducted by an accredited institution based on Electrical Safety Circulars No. 01/2013 dated 22th Feruary 2013.
